Wm. Deacon Co., Inc. was founded in 1982 by Bill Deacon, who continues to serve as
President and independent broker of the firm. The 25 year old business was initiated as
the availability of utilities in the northern mid-cities portion of the Dallas Fort Worth
MetroPlex first made the area eligible for development.
In its early years, the company focused on land development brokerage in the
communities north and northwest of DFW International Airport. As the Texas real estate
market declined in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, Bill Deacon became a CCIM and
the firm broadened its activities to include brokerage for pension fund and high net worth
investors. Such representation led to acquisitions of multi-family projects around the
state. Even though the company has a diversified experience in commercial real estate
market, it has closed over $100 million of transactions, and Bill Deacon personally
participated in the successful acquisition and/or disposition of land and a variety of
Beginning in 1987, Wm. Deacon Co., Inc. became the managing partner of three
partnerships and one joint venture and added management, leasing, and restoration
responsibilities for properties representing a cross section of the commercial real
estate market. This additional oversight provided valuable experience in economically
upgrading 45,000 SF of industrial, 4500 SF of office, 4000 SF of retail, and 4000 SF feet
of office showroom space, and 16 residential buildings. Almost 1500 acres held by
these entities were land planned for future development and disposition. By the middle
1990’s sub-division development was underway on a portion of the acreage.
Throughout this term sub-contractors were directed in the restoration of all above
ground improvements leading to the orderly liquidation of sites into their highest and
best use based on sub-market maturity.
In the latter part of the 1990’s, Bill Deacon formed a sister company for the historic
rehabilitation of the former B & D Mills feed manufacturing complex in Grapevine. Grain
Mill, Ltd., a wholly owned partnership by Bill Deacon’s immediate family owns the site in
downtown Grapevine, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. With
repairs to the existing facilities and construction documents completed for the final
rehabilitation, the site is awaiting adaptive re-use into a destination retail project.
